Need another sign that the world is slowly coming back to sort of normal?

Today Major League Soccer discontinued Parley Ocean Plastics 2021 swimsuits, which, like many things, were postponed to 2020.

A quick overview: These jerseys are made from recycled ocean plastic (aka trash), although they never released the actual percentage of scraps collected in the standard climacool. Every team in the league has one. In previous seasons (2018/2019), there were equal teams that received a white jersey to teams that had a black / blue jersey, and they wore them for a single weekend of MLS game action, for never be seen again.

As you can probably guess, these babies are a pretty hot commodity. The 2019 Atlanta united sold in minutes and can fetch a hefty price in the resale market. Here in the YYZ, the black 2018 and the very dark, almost imperceptibly blue 2019 are coveted by those who managed to grab one, and coveted by those who didn’t.

But not me, I have my own “white whale that escaped”:

But I digress. Return to the Parleys. To get more publicity, it looks like MLS and Twitter have teamed up for some sort of promotion.

It’s a word salad, so here’s an integration of TFC’s tweet:

Although it is not said explicitly, I imagine the price is a free shirt? Although the way it works as an ‘swap’ makes my head spin – for sure read the rules linked in this tweet later 🙂

Now on to the good stuff, the Toronto FC 2021 Parley PRIMEBLUE Jersey:

In an amazing twist, TFC gets the lightest variant of this trick and IT’S NOT A boring WHITE T-SHIRT made out of trash. There are real details in the vaguely cashmere print. While the fit and trim are almost a direct copy of this year’s workout top, they’re excellent. So no complaints, beyond that it becomes easy to spot when Adidas gets a little lazy.

For me, the baby blue sponsor, the adidas badge and crest are where the magic happens. I also love this blue / gray shade on the shoulders.

My reflex note? A solid B +

TL; DR – I’m not rushing to the team store to pick one up and hope I won’t regret it later.

(Edit – My wife couldn’t resist once she found out they were available in women’s sizes. So we’ll own one between us. Do you listen to MLS? Women’s height matters.)

I certainly prefer it to the darker alternatives:
