While the price tag certainly puts it out of the reach of many, the Labodet MagSafe Goggle for iPhone 12 is an incredibly unique and smart way to outfit your device.

High-end and haute couture design

To be super clear from the start, this is not a commodity for the masses. Rather, it falls into the category of “haute couture” which is of exceptional quality, backed by several dollar signs.

Typical of fashion houses, the Labodet mask is available in several leather choices, including python, crocodile, alligator, ostrich and regular calfskin. In our case, we are more traditionalist and have gone for your standard leather in a bright red. Other color options include brown, royal blue, black, dark green, taupe, caramel, orange, and pink.

When ordering, you can choose your type of leather, your leather color, then the metal accent. The accent metal surrounds the camera cutout and matches the Labodet logo emblazoned on the bottom.

You can choose between 18k gold, polished stainless steel, or stainless steel with black PVD plating. These are only assembled when ordering, and you can create a truly personalized iPhone between your choice of phone color and your personally designed Labodet goggle.

Our Labodet MagSafe mask arrived in a linen wrapped box with a magnetic flap, similar to a Louis Vuitton orange box. Inside we had a canvas bag containing our custom designed mask.

Despite the price, Labodet seems to imagine that users buy several to change regularly depending on an outfit, the season or evening plans. They are super easy to change at any time.

The mask attaches two to your phone in two ways. First off, by MagSafe – more on that in a moment. Second, via four small adhesive patches.

These little patches hold firmly to your phone and will not come off when dropped. But, once you put your finger under the edge, you can easily peel it off. This nanopolymer, as Labodet calls it, appears to be a micro-suction material that can be applied, removed, and reapplied over and over again.

This material is becoming more and more popular among manufacturers of enclosures and accessories due to its versatility. We’ve seen it on MagSafe wallets, folios like the Twelve South SurfacePad, and more.

The leather is of very high quality and is soft and durable. We appreciate that Labodet offers several different color options here, because while we love this bright red, others may prefer more subtle or natural colors like brown or black.

MagSafe, from start to finish

This mask not only has MagSafe integrated, but is largely possible because of MagSafe. Without it, it wouldn’t be as good a product as it is.

MagSafe is what makes installation effortless. As the mask approaches your phone, the MagSafe magnets align the mask and it snaps into place.

There is no need to worry about manually aligning the edges or worrying about not putting it straight. Apply it as many times as you like, as it will always be perfectly straight.

With MagSafe inside the mask, you can use almost any MagSafe accessory with it. We’ve tested many of the most popular MagSafe accessories, including ESR gear, Moment mounts, Belkin Vent Mount Pro, and Belkin BoostCharge Pro. It all worked smoothly.

There is, however, one drawback which is regrettable. Labodet put a nice little accent down. This is a metal representation of its logo, color matched to the metallic accent around the camera cutout.

The emblem does not allow the wallets to be perfectly aligned

With this, it makes wallets almost banned. We always put our MagSafe wallet on for a try, but it does straighten out every now and then which weakens the downward magnetic pull and makes the wallet more likely to spin or twist.

Officially, Labodet says that MagSafe wallets are not supported with this mask, but they are working to ensure that the next version will be compatible.

Should you buy the Labodet MagSafe mask

The Labodet Mask is not a case. This is far from a case and you certainly can’t expect similar protection from this device. But we know a lot of iPhone users who prefer to keep their iPhones minimal – us included. By opting for something like this back cover, you get minimal drop protection while enhancing the style.

The back of the iPhone 12 is actually more expensive to repair or replace than the front, so protecting it with something isn’t a bad idea.

We have no qualms with the build quality of the Labodet mask and love the fully customizable color and metal options upon ordering, as well as the protection. If we had one change that we would like to see, it was the integration of the logo so that the wallets and other large accessories were on the same level.

Assuming you accept the price, the Labodet is a gorgeous addition to your phone.
