  • The SUV is a growing market for consumers

Goodyear has announced the launch of the UltraGrip Performance + SUV. This new range of tires covers the growing sports utility vehicle (SUV) and crossover market by offering consumers a technology-rich winter tire that increases versatility and contributes to the safety of their vehicles.

The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance + for conventional cars has already been acclaimed as test winner by Auto Bild1 in a test of 11 winter tire brands. The UltraGrip Performance + SUV takes this award-winning technology and offers it in a package designed for the growing SUV market.

A growing market

The premium winter SUV market is one of the fastest growing in the tire industry. Drivers looking for the versatility of an SUV look for tires that meet their desire for safety and traction. As a result, it is a growing market with an 8% growth over the past decade.2 The SUV segment is also moving towards larger rim sizes. Sales of tires with rim diameters greater than 19 ?? are expected to grow by 8% over the period 2019-2024.

Technology to win in a premium segment

The tire trade is increasingly focused on these high added value and high demand segments. Goodyear has developed a set of technologies to put the UltraGrip Performance + SUV at the forefront of the market.

Goodyear achieved 13% more mileage gain and improved performance in all winter conditions3. This was achieved by incorporating the following innovations into the UltraGrip Performance + SUV.

  • Mileage Plus Technology: High tread elasticity results in better wear resistance, improving durability and mileage.
  • Winter Grip Technology: A new compound improves the elasticity of rubber at low temperatures, providing increased grip on snow and ice.
  • Traction Protect Technology: Equipped with an advanced resin which improves the tire’s deformation and reformation capacities. As a result, the braking forces can be transferred more quickly to the grip.

Laurent Colantonio, Goodyear Regional Director of Technology, Consumer Tires EMEA said: “UltraGrip Performance + SUV combines our award-winning winter technologies with our expertise in developing tires for the demands of SUV, 4×4 and crossover drivers. Many of these drivers are drawn to these types of vehicles out of a desire for safety, traction and versatility. UltraGrip Performance + SUV offers these drivers a tire that withstands the most demanding winter conditions.

The wide range includes 33 references from 16? at 20 ??. This covers a wide range of SUVs and crossovers, from the compact urban segment to large premium SUVs.
