Before the Dallas Mavericks faced the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, one of the main concerns was LA’s strong supporting cast. It did not live up to expectations, to say the least.
So far, the supporting cast of the Clippers around Kawhi Leonard and Paul George is not getting the job done.
Now, falling behind 2-0 in the series, the Clippers could look to change the roster to potentially lead to better results in Game 3.
“Something has to be done, so you’ll see on Friday),” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said.
It’s obvious that attacking Ivica Zubac in space is a priority for the Mavericks. Considerable success has been achieved in doing so. However, replacing it would remove any semblance of rim protection.
The only options the Clippers have if they trade Zubac would be to go with Serge Ibaka, DeMarcus Cousins or go ultra-small. Neither option would translate into a better solution to slow Luka Doncic down.
Another glaring issue for the Clippers has been Marcus Morris Sr.’s lack of shooting execution.
“You have to mix things up, and you have to be on the same page when you do it, and that’s the most important thing, just to be on the same page in our communication,” Lue said.
Inserting Nicolas Batum into the starting lineup would likely be the course of action the Clippers would take if Morris Sr. were to be transferred to the bench. Batum averages 10.0 points while shooting 50.0% from the three-point range to start the streak.
